Ephesians 6:12. “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this word, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
It may seem as if all our battles are against other human beings. Anyone watching this terrible election cycle would certainly feel that we are spending our time fighting against each other. That fighting, however, is a physical manifestation of a spiritual warfare that Satan has been waging since God created Adam and Eve. God described that warfare in Genesis 3:15: “And I (God) will put enmity between thee(Satan) and the woman, and between thy seed (demons) and her Seed (Jesus Christ): it (the enmity) shall bruise they head (the blood sacrifice of Jesus crushed Satan’s plans) and thou shalt bruise His heel (Satan did not have the power to destroy Jesus, but only to wound Him, as snakes often do).
No, our battle is with principalities, the angels who joined in Satan’s rebellion and fell from heaven with him. They are the world-rulers of this present darkness; evil powers, evil angels, seeking to control the hearts of those in authority positions in the world, and to keep people from accepting the truth of God.
Satan’s goal is to destroy whatever God loves. He knows he cannot defeat God Himself, so he targets us instead. He is gleeful whenever war breaks out, wherever it breaks out, because human souls are lost by the thousands.
We cannot defeat Satan apart from the strength of the Holy Spirit through the Word of God. Being in the Word is not just a rote exercise to make us feel we are being good little Christians. It is of vital importance as we struggle in this warfare against Satan and his demons.
Never believe that Satan is just a myth. He is real, his demons are real, and his power is real.
Be ready.
Being in God’s Word is not a rote exercise. It sure isn’t. Neither is it random. It gradually changes us.
