On Mount Hood

She quivered, belly-down on the toboggan.

“Don’t move!”

“Okay!”

Her breath puffed smoke signals. Icy snow trickled into the abyss.

The man belly-down behind her grabbed the toboggan’s back; another gripped the front.

“Hang on hard to the rope, Honey!”

“Ready?”

Swish! Slide!

“You’re safe. We’ve got you. You’re safe!”
