God Hears our Prayers

Psalm 65:2. “O Thou that hearest prayer, unto Thee shall all flesh come.”

David lived among nations who worshiped many different gods and goddesses. It is not much different now than it was then. People sacrificed to other gods; they allowed their children to be horribly sacrificed to Molech; they took part in sexual rituals in the names of other gods, believing that somehow these rituals would gain favor for them.

This verse put me in mind of one of my favorite Old Testament stories. In I Kings 18:27, Elijah mocked the priests and prophets of Baal, saying, “Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.”

It’s a wonderful story. You can get the whole picture in I Kings 18. Elijah was referring to the false god, Baal, when he mocked those priests. He knew that Baal would not answer their prayers. He knew that God would answer his prayers, though, just as David knew that God answered his own prayers.

There will come a day when all the peoples of the earth will realize that there is but one God, the God Who hears our prayers.

I am so thankful to know, and have experienced, that God answers my prayers.
