Sunday Morning Coffee: Spring

I think it’s really here. It’s been peeking around the corner, withdrawing, peeking again. But now the flowering trees are doing their thing, lifting bouquets of glorious beauty up to the Creator. Daffodils are loaning us their delightful, happy yellow.

And soon, there will be tulips. I love tulips. The colors are so vibrant. They just make me smile.

Isn’t that just gorgeous! How I would love to be there during blooming season in Holland.

I really don’t have much else to say this morning. Sometimes the heart is just too full for words. But never for music!

Grow it, Burn it, or Make an Idol

Isaiah 44:14-15. “He hewed him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth  an oak, and the rain doth nourish it. Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread: yea, he maketh a god, and worsippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.”

The cedars of Lebanon were renowned for the size and for the quality of the wood. Along with other trees that man can plant, they were cut down and used for heat, for cooking and baking, and for making houses–and idols. The same material that was used to stoke the cook stove was also used to carve an image that the man who carved it would then fall down and worship.

Doesn’t make a whole lot of sense, does it?  We also have to remember that the creating and selling of idols turned into a trade that did a lucrative business, too. We make the idol, sell the idol, and then worship the idol.

The Holy One of Israel Restores

Isaiah 41: 17-20. “When the poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue faileth for thirst, I the Lord will hear them, I the God of Israel will not forsake them.  I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valley: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together: That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the Lord hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it.”

Israel will have endured the Tribulation, especially the second half, with great loss and deprivation. Antichrist will destroy as much as he can; he will especially target Israel, making it a land of desolation.

BUT GOD!  I love those two words. No matter what, God will restore His people and their land, and He will do it in wonderful, health-giving ways. He will restore water to a dry and thirsty land.  Trees will grow abundantly once again.  Healing will take place, and even the desert will bloom and thrive under the reign of Messiah.

All this will happen so that everyone may know that it is God Who has created it. It is the Holy One of Israel Who has restored His land and His people.
