18 According to their deeds, accordingly He will repay, fury to His adversaries, recompence to His enemies; to the islands He will repay recompence.
19 So shall they fear the name of the Lord from the west, and His glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord shall lift up a standard against him.
Again, speaking of the great day when God will put an end to all the evil forces of Satan at the Battle of Armageddon, this passage speaks to God’s fury at His enemies. He will repay according to their deeds, in every part of the world where anyone tries to rise up against Him.
It is interesting to note that the countries of the world are fairly evenly divided into two categories: The countries of the West, and those of the East. This division is reflected in v. 19, which makes it clear that no one who rises against God will go unchallenged. Antichrist and his armies will sweep into Israel and Jerusalem. Half of Jerusalem will be taken by this flood of nations before Christ suddenly makes His appearance from heaven to defeat the Antichrist, becoming the standard that will be raised up against the enemy (Zech. 14:1-5, 14, 15.)
God’s standard and ensign which will save the people in that day is Jesus Christ.
