Woe to Jerusalem

Isaiah 29: 1-2. “Woe to Ariel, to Ariel, the city where David dwelt! Add ye year to year; let them kill sacrifices. Yet I will distress Ariel, and there shall be heaviness, and sorrow; and it shall be unto me as Ariel.”

Hebrew Meaning: The name Ariel is a Hebrew baby name. In Hebrew the meaning of the name Ariel is: Sprite; lion of God. A biblical alternate name for Jerusalem.

God’s promise is sure. Years may pass, and hundreds of sacrifices made; yet the judgment on Jerusalem will not fail.

You know, the idea that we can somehow out-god God has existed since Lucifer, the Light-Bearer, the most beautiful angel of all, decided to be greater than God. His pride took him and those who followed him to a terrible doom. Yet, their spirit of rebellion has infected the heart of mankind.  We think we’re smarter than God, that we understand how to live way better than He does. We have ceased to fear (respect) the power of God, and it will eventually be to our sorrow that we have become so full of ourselves that we forget He’s watching; that our rebellion breaks His heart; that our worldliness grieves Him in His holiness.

Jerusalem paid the price, more than once.  Sometimes I really believe that all of humanity has a wish to self-destruct, because we just keep repeating the same sin over and over again. Rebellion.  Pride, Selfishness. Cold hearts of unbelief.
