Damascus, a major trade center in Syria, would suffer ruin because it allied itself against with Israel against Judah. Aroer is a Biblical town on the north bank of the River Arnon to the east of the Dead Sea, in present-day Jordan. The town was an ancient Moabite settlement.

I am continuously fascinated, as we work our way through Isaiah, that the very same countries who rose against Israel back then are still making threats and carrying out attacks today. Israel is the hot spot to watch. It is still surrounded by those who want to see it wiped off the face of the earth.
