Isaiah 14:20. “Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou has destroyed thy land, and slain thy people; the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.”
This final verse in this passage concerning Babylon and Antichrist, repeating that Antichrist would not be honorably buried because of his evil deeds, has set my mind to working.
The seed, or offspring, of evildoers will not be renowned, will not be famous, will not even be mentioned.
So who are some evildoers in our world whose offspring don’t get a whole lot of press?
Hitler, as far as I know, never had children.
If Stalin or Lenin had children, we never hear of them. Same for Pol Pot and Ho Che Min. Same for Saddam Hussein. Charles Manson? I don’t know if he had children. Ted Bundy? Don’t know. So many names come crowding to my mind that I can’t list them all, but in every case, we’ve never heard anything about their offspring.
It would seem that any offspring of the infamous have chosen to stay out of the public eye, or they simply don’t exist.
All leaders, rulers, captains and kings, want to leave a legacy. Many of them have left a legacy, for sure, but usually not the one they intended to leave. If memory serves, Mussolini’s body was left hanging by his feet from the girders of a gasoline station. His body was mutilated beyond recognition. When Hitler heard of it, he chose to commit suicide rather than having his own body undergo such shame.
Earthly glory is short-lived. Eternity never ends. For those in power who have been evil in their deeds, it’s a pretty bleak prospect for the short time they ruled here on earth.
