Isaiah 14:16-17. “They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?”
We seem to be switching back and forth from earthly kings to Lucifer; from Sheol to earth. The thing is, all these things are closely tied together. Lucifer is the power behind the Antichrist, and in these and the following verses we are seeing the fallen Antichrist through the eyes of those he had ruled over so mercilessly.
As with all con men, they start by promising you things you desire. Once they have your attention, they offer you what looks real, but is in fact counterfeit. Smoke and mirrors. At the heart of every con is a tiny bit of truth wrapped in countless lies.
Remember Eve? Satan won her over by planting the seed of doubt in her mind. He questioned what God had said, very subtly causing her to rethink what Adam had told her–and he had her! She fell for the worst con of all.
The ultimate end of that con is Antichrist, who will promise world peace and heaven on earth. Then he will institute a reign of terror and ruthlessness such as the world has never seen.
When he falls, his former subjects will look at him in bitter disrespect, and they will mock him, and remind him of his horrible deeds. They will rejoice at his defeat.
