Isaiah 8: 18. “Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the Lord of Hosts, which dwelleth in Mount Zion.”
Isaiah stopped here for just a moment to remind the people that both he and his sons were there as reminders to the people that God was the Lord of Hosts. Isaiah himself had seen an incredible vision in Chapter Six. The names of his sons were messages to the people. Shear-Jashub’s name meant a remnant will return. Maher-Shalal-Hashbaz meant plunder would come quickly, and spoils will be great.” Isaiah means Salvation is of the Lord.
Everything about this family pointed the people to forsake their sin and turn to God. Even Isaiah’s wife was a prophetess. They were all there for the purpose of warning the people and offering them an escape from the doom that was about to fall.
Sometimes people wonder where God was when terrible tragedies happen, as if He must have gone on a vacation. God never leaves us or forsakes us. Even during the darkest hour of our need, He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
God is not the One Who forsakes.
