Ephesians 5:25. “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it:”
I wonder if any of us truly understands the kind of love that God is talking about here. Complete, self-sacrificing love; love to the extent of giving up your own life for the sake of the loved one. It’s huge. It’s the highest love there is.
Men, you are being commanded to be Christ-like to the fullest extent. He came specifically to die for His bride. I doubt whether that thought is in your mind during your wedding ceremony, but it should be in your thinking as you consider the woman you marry.
This is not a suggestion. It is a command. Love your wives in the same way Christ loved the church. Be willing to die for her. Love her with such fervor that you would not hesitate to throw yourself in the way of any danger that threatens her. Love her with great tenderness and great strength.
I’ll let you in on an important secret. If you strive, through God’s power, to love her unselfishly and sacrificially, you’ll make it very easy for her to accept and submit to your headship in the home. See, Christ was the motivator, and the bride is the reactor. We, the body of Christ, love Him because He first loved us.
It would take a cold woman indeed to NOT react with love and respect to the man who treats her as if she were the most glorious jewel in his crown.
