Ephesians 4:13. “Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:”
I was glad to find this graphic that goes back a couple of verses. It’s a good review. especially since it’s been several days since I did the last Ephesians post.
Christ has given gifts to believers to do God’s work, for the equipping of the saints and the building up of the church, until we reach that perfect unity of the faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ when our work here is done and we are taken to heaven to be with Him for all eternity.
Watching all the accusations and counter-accusations in this interminable and excruciating campaign is wearing me out. Even men whose moral character I admire have been pulled into the vortex of mudslinging and character assassination.
There is an old spiritual that comes to mind. Let me see if I can find it:
I can just see with the eye of imagination those colored slaves singing songs like this in the cotton fields of the South. Very often, history records, the slaves did have at least part of Sunday off, and many of them met in groups to worship, sometimes even with slaves of a neighboring plantation. I am thankful that they were given God’s Word to lean upon. It was and still remains a choice for all of us.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. We enjoy those songs now for their beauty, harmony, and pathos. To the slaves, however, they were a cry to heaven for some relief from terrible conditions.
