Walk in the Spirit

Galatians 5:16. “This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.”

Someone recently asked me, “Why don’t I seem to care about God?”  The answer is so simple, yet so difficult. It is because she is not in the Word. We cannot expect to walk in the Spirit if we never communicate with Him. If we push the Bible away, we are pushing God away. After a while, there is no behavior that we won’t indulge in. We fulfil the lusts of the flesh because we are not feeding on His Word.

Walk in the Spirit.  Let your daily activities and behaviors be controlled not by how you feel at any given moment, but by the truths in the Word of God. How you feel is completely secondary to what is true. Our emotions are governed by what we believe to be true. Emotions change. Truth never does.

Walk in the Spirit by being in the Word. You don’t have to be a world-famous Bible scholar. All you have to do is dust off your Bible and open it; read a verse or a few verses, or a chapter. Pray for understanding.  Pray for the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food. Job 23:12.

When we walk in the Spirit, we will not give in to selfish, fleshly desires.

  1. I remember a chapel message by Mr. Brady that challenged us to read the Bible and he used the verse, “Now ye are clean through the Word which I have spoken unto you” All these many years later, that memory sprang forth as I was reading this devotional. God’s Word is so powerful in our lives, but we must read it. Thank you for your words of advice today.
