Matthew 24:20-22. “But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.
Truly, we have never seen such horror on the earth as the Great Tribulation will spawn; and never again will such horror take place. This will be the worst time of persecution that Israel has ever endured, and if God had not ordained that it be a relatively short period of time, not one person would survive the holocaust that will occur in those days. God will cut short the persecution itself “for the elect’s sake.” In this context the elect refers to God’s chosen people, Israel. It is during this terrible time that the faithful preaching of the gospel of the kingdom will continue, in spite of the persecution, and Israel will finally turn as a nation to Jesus Christ, Messiah, King.
And at the end of the Tribulation period, Jesus Himself will return visibly and physically to this weary old world.
Tomorrow, we’ll look at six signs that will occur during the Tribulation. If all six of these signs are not in place, then we are not yet in the Tribulation. There are those who believe these present times are the Tribulation. Tomorrow we will see why this isn’t the case.
