Joseph Obeyed God

Matt. 1:24-25. “Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn Son: and he called His name JESUS.”

Just a few quick comments this morning.  Joseph’s unquestioning obedience amazes me.  He was setting himself up for a lot of unkindness in the following years, which I’m sure he knew.  He was choosing to protect Mary and honor her in spite of what the gossip would be.  He was choosing to acknowledge the miracle of the conception of Jesus!  What great faith he had, and what a humble spirit.

He didn’t “know” Mary until after the birth of Jesus.  He took her as his wife but did not engage in marital intimacy with her until Jesus had been born, thereby protecting her purity and the miracle of His birth. Joseph was a godly man.  No wonder he was chosen to be the earthly, legal father for Jesus.

One more thing.  We know that Jesus had siblings.  Those relationships are prophesied in the Messianic Psalm 69: 7-8. “Because for Thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered My face. I am become a stranger unto My brethren, and an alien unto My mother’s children.”

Other passages confirm that Joseph and Mary went on to have children:  Matt. 13:55 and 27:56;  Mark 3:31 and 6:3; Mark 15:40 and  16:1; and John 2:12 and 7: 3-5 are just a few of the passages that confirm that He was the elder brother in the family. Joseph and Mary went on to live as normal a life as anyone could, considering Who was growing up in their household!

  1. I noticed that you and I have a common follower. Interesting. I first noticed mustardseed budget on a blog I read most days, morningstory and dilbert. It is interesting how the blogger’s readers gravitate toward each other. I actually have a person following me from Saudia Arabia! Once in awhile, not often enough, I look at my list of followers and pray for them. I have no idea what the needs are, but God does. Can my little anecdotes about Hank possibly help? It is my aspiration and I certainly hope it comes to fruition.

    1. I found Mustard Seed among your followers, and went to see what it was about. It seems to me you may have quoted him or reblogged, I’m not sure. But I enjoy him very much.

You never know how God is going to use you. I love seeing where my viewers live–amazes me to get hits from places I’ve never even thought about, like Bahrain. People all over the world are searching for Bible truth.
